Marilyn J. (Newton) Crete, 72, of Fairhaven died March 15, 2011 peacefully at home after a long illness.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Wilfred and Evelyn (Tapper) Newton, she lived in New Bedford, Wareham and Fairhaven most of her life. She lived in Alaska for 3 years with her family.
She enjoyed photography, the outdoors, particularly the ocean, the company of her friends, family, and her dogs. Marilyn was a friend of Bill W. She held a variety of jobs, including being a fire spotter in Myles Standish State Forest.
Survivors include her 4 children, Shan Morrissey and her husband Dean of Scituate, Douglas Crete and his wife Jodie of Virginia, Terri Meehan and her husband Niall of Virginia and Daniel Crete and his wife Kellie of Marion; a sister, Evelyn Marques of Fairhaven; 3 brothers, Bruce Newton of New Bedford, Robert Newton of Newburyport and Philip Newton of Centerville; 9 grandchildren, Jeremy, Alanna, Ian, Hailley, Jimmy, Ben, Sean, Tapper and Addie; many nieces and nephews.
She was the grandmother of the late Kate Morrissey and sister of the late Charles Newton.
Her Funeral Service will he held on Friday, March 18th at 10 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home For Funerals, 50 County Rd. (Rt. 6) Mattapoisett. Burial will follow in Naskatucket Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Thursday, March 17th from 4-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to P.A.C.E. Food Programs, 166 William St. New Bedford, MA 02740.
