John J. Gerraughty, 68

Dateline: Mansfield, MA

John J. Gerraughty, 68, of Mansfield formerly of Westwood and Newton passed away surrounded by his loving family, in the comfort of his home, on Monday March 14, 2011. He was the beloved husband of Joyce L. (Walsh) Gerraughty, to whom he was wed for 30 years.
Born in Newton, MA on October 25, 1942, he was a son of the late Joseph H. and Alice (Boudreau) Gerraughty.
John grew up in Newton and was educated in Newton public schools. He had made his home in Mansfield for the past 17 years and had previously resided in Westwood for 13 years.
A retired Truck Driver, Mr. Gerraughty had been employed for many years for Garvey Transport in Holbrook.
John was an avid bowler and was an active member at the Norwood Sports Center where he was in charge of running 2 weekly bowling leagues. His other hobbies included fishing and playing cards, cribbage being his favorite. He loved spending time in the presence of his adoring family, especially with his grandchildren
In addition to his beloved wife he is survived by his devoted children Kenneth S. Gerraughty and his wife Lorraine of Surprise, Arizona, Christine L. Record and her husband Steve of Duxbury and Colleen A. Towne of West Roxbury. The dear brother of Albert Gerraughty of Marlboro, Alice Bartinelli of Newton, Joan Knight of Brockton and Patricia Sampson of Newton, Mr. Gerraughty is also survived by his cherished grandchildren Steven, William, Jonathon, Cole, Camden and Bobby as well as many nieces and nephews.
His funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Friday March 18th at 8:00 A.M. from the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield, followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 9:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow in the Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday March 17th from 5-8 P.M. at the Sherman and Jackson Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, John’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the West Side Benevolent Circle, Inc. P.O Box 506 Mansfield, MA 02048.
