Ellington CT- Marion M. (Anderson) Cairns, of 9 Strawberry Rd., Ellington, formerly of 17 Uxbridge St., Worcester, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, in Rockville General Hospital, Rockville.
Her husband of 53 years, Alfred F. Cairns, died in 1994. She leaves two sons, James G. Cairns of Charlton and William R. Cairns of Warwick, RI; a daughter Jane M. Thomas of Ellington, CT; 9 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; nephews and nieces. A sister, Mary F. Wallengevicz of Cambridge, predeceased her. She was born in Boston, daughter of Garfield and Eleanor (Trainor) Anderson and lived in Prince Edward Island, Canada, moving to Worcester in 1927. She moved here in 2001. She graduated from St. Peter’s High School and in 1933, graduated from the Worcester City Hospital School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse at Hahnemann Hospital, retiring in 1977.
She was a member of St. Bernard’s Church, Worcester, a communicant of St. Luke’s Church in Ellington, a former member of the Emblem Club, and a life member of the Worcester City Hospital Alumni Association.
The funeral will be held Saturday, Jan. 17, from DIRSA-MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 298 Grafton St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Bernard’s Church, 228 Lincoln St. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16, in the funeral home. Flowers may be sent or donations may be made to the charity of the donors choice.
