David M. McCarthy, 69, of New Bedford died March 13, 2011 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness.
He was the husband of Patricia A. (Reedy) McCarthy with whom he shared 50 years of marriage.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Patrick J. and Mary J. (Sweeney) McCarthy, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
Mr. McCarthy was a communicant of St. Lawrence Church.
He was formerly employed by New England Telephone for 32 years before his retirement in 1998.
Mr. McCarthy was a member of the Telephone Pioneers, the IBEW Local 222 and the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick.
In retirement, he enjoyed making furniture. He enjoyed golf and watching the New England Patriots and the Boston RedSox.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Michael D. McCarthy and his wife Sheryl of Fairhaven; a daughter, Colleen A. McCarthy Cregan of New Bedford; 5 grandchildren, Mary K. Cregan, Daniel M. McCarthy, Patricia C. Cregan, Dennis J. McCarthy and William D. Cregan, IV; 3 nieces, Elizabeth Barclay, Kelly Reedy and Deven Reedy and a nephew, Arthur Caesar.
He was the brother of the late Patrick J. McCarthy, James "Buddy" McCarthy and Mary McCarthy Caesar.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Thursday, March 17th at 9 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Lawrence Church at 10 AM. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours Wednesday, March 16th from 4-8 PM.
