DOHERTY, Edward H. Age 82, of Chelsea formerly a 44 year resident of Newton, passed away March 13, 2011. Edward was the son of the late James A. and Eugenia H. Doherty. He was the loving father to Elizabeth A. Doherty of North Brookfield, Kathleen M. Steenbruggen and her husband Charles of North Brookfield, Suzanne M. Doherty of Thornton, CO, Edward A. Doherty and his wife Paula of Westwood, Kevin J. Doherty of Provincetown & Stephen LaRose and his wife Denise of Cape Elizabeth, ME. Brother of Marcella D. Smith of Kenmore, NY, James A. Doherty Jr. of Phoenix, AZ, Eugene W. Doherty of Arlington, VA and the late Joanne M. Doherty. Good friend and companion of Josephine Morrissey. He also leaves several grandchildren and several great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
Edward was a WW II Army Veteran. He was a life long member of the American Legion, George D. Carson post 141, Newton Centre. He graduated from New England Institute of Anatomy in 1950 and worked with several area funeral directors for many years. He was the owner/operator of the Newton Livery Service in Newton Centre. He was co-owner of Eastern Express car wash, Chelsea. Those who knew Eddie will remember him for his sense of humor, love of music and singing his Irish Ballads.
