Peter A. Schinas, 57, of New Bedford died March 12, 2011 at Charlton Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Akelas C. and Cleopatra (Chipas) Schinas, he lived in New Bedford most of his life.
He was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church.
Mr. Schinas was the co-owner and cook at the Golden Greek Restaurant and Phoenix Restaurant. Peter also worked at the Italian Kitchen, the Village Cafe and Angelo's Orchid Diner.
He played soccer for the Lorain County Community College Commodores.
Survivors include a son, Peter Mello of Newton, MA; a daughter, Amanda Browning of Dartmouth; a step-son, Jason Ferro of Fairhaven; a brother, Theodore Schinas of New Bedford; a sister, Georgia Wishnefsky of Walpole; 2 grandchildren, Nathan and Layne; a niece and 3 nephews and several lifelong friends including David Augustine, Dennis Augustine, Ron O'Berry, Jr., Mark Sweet, Glenn Sylvia and Bruce Branchard.
He was the brother of the late Christopher A. Schinas.
His Funeral Service will be held on Friday, March 18th at 11 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St. New Bedford. Visiting hours Thursday, March 17th from 4-8 PM.
