Juanita Pettis Hendley, 96, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Saturday, March 12, 2011, at the Osceola Nursing Home in Ocilla.
Funeral services will be held 3 P.M. Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Irwin County with the Rev. John Gibbs, Jr., Rev. Wayne McCrimmon and Elder Jerry Barrs officiating. Interment will follow in the Brushy Creek Cemetery in Irwin County. Visitation will be held from 7 until 9 PM Monday evening at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Mrs. Hendley was born November 14, 1914 in Bleckley County to the late Giles Avrett and Mattie Barlow Pettis. She had lived in Irwin County most all of her life and was the oldest member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. She was a dedicated homemaker and an avid camper who loved her grandchildren.
She is survived by a son and daughters-in-law: Loren & Betty Hendley and Joyce Hendley, all of Ocilla; Grandchildren: Sherri Hendley, Billy Hendley, Tracey Horne, Brad Horne, Donny Cleghorn, Brenda Fletcher, Michael Cleghorn and Joy Edinfield; 15 Great-grandchildren and 5 Great great grandchildren. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Hendley, 2 sons, Johnny and Curtis Hendley, 2 sisters and 4 brothers.
