William Halcrow, 98, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2011 at the Life Care Center of Auburn.
He was predeceased by his wife of 42 years, Ruth V. (Erickson) Halcrow who died in 2002 and a sister, Florence E. Whipple.
Bill was born in Providence, R.I. on February 5, 1913.
He graduated from Technical High School in Providence.
Bill served in the Navy during WWII and worked on the PB4Y flying boats while stationed in California.
He worked for more than 25 years as a stationary engineer at Cranston Print Works in Webster and retired in 1980.
He was a member of the Oxford Lodge of Masons for over 50 years and was a member for almost 50 years of the Epworth United Methodist Church in Worcester.
Bill later was a volunteer in the Service Companion Programs in Worcester and Tri Valley in Webster, with 24 years of combined service.
He was a member of the Worcester Photo Color Club ( now 7 Hills Camera Club) and was also a railroad enthusiast.He was also an amateur radio operator (N1lNW) for many years, and was a member of the Worcester Radio Club.
As per Bill's wishes, Funeral Services will be Private. There are No calling hours. Burial will be in The Massachusetts National Veterans Cemetery in Bourne.
The Robert J. Miller-Oxford Funeral Home, 247 Main St., Oxford is directing arrangements.
