Joan M. Leaverton, 46

Joan M. (McGrath) Leaverton, 46, of Mansfield formerly of Stoughton, passed away surrounded by her loving family, in the comfort of her home, on Saturday March 12, 2011. She was the beloved wife of James Leaverton, to whom she was wed on October 18, 1987.
Born in Boston, MA on June 19, 1964, she was a dear daughter of Jean (MacMillan) McGrath of New Hampshire and Florida and the late Robert McGrath.
Joan grew up in Stoughton, was educated in Stoughton public schools and was a 1982 graduate of Stoughton High School. She furthered her studies and was a graduate of the Salem State School of Nursing.
Joan was employed as a Registered Nurse for the South Shore Visiting Nurse Agency/Hospital in Weymouth for 20 years.
A resident of Mansfield for the past 20 years, she was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield. Joan’s family was the focal point of her life and she, along with her husband, enjoyed raising her daughters and participating in their activities.
Joan loved watching reality shows and was a huge fan of Survivor and Amazing Race. Her other favorite times spent were trips taken with her friends. Joan was truly a people person and will always be remembered for her remarkable sense of humor.
In addition to her beloved husband and dear mother, she is survived by her loving daughters Katie A. Leaverton of Chicago, Illinois and Jennifer L. Leaverton of Mansfield. The devoted sister of Robert McGrath and his wife Debbie of Billerica, Richard McGrath and his wife Gail of Easton and Catherine Neild and her husband David of Auburn, New Hampshire, Mrs. Leaverton is also survived by her cherished nieces and nephews Kaleigh, Megan and Connor McGrath, Sean, Ryan and Cameron McGrath and Danielle and Sara Neild, her adoring aunt Sister Katherine McGrath of Peru, as well as several cousins and numerous friends.
Her Funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Tuesday March 15th at 10:30 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St.(Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Mansfield.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday March 14th from 4-8 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield.
In lieu of flowers, Joan’s family has requested that donations in her memory be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168.
