Obituary

GLOUCESTER — Sylvia Jean (Borge) Hazen, wife of the late LeBaron L. Hazen Sr., passed away quietly, Friday, March 4, 2011 at Seacoast Nursing Home.
Born in Gloucester Nov. 5, 1929, she was the daughter of Alvin Borge and Mary (Day) Larkin. Raised in Gloucester by her grandparents, John and Olympia Borge, she graduated Gloucester High School and later married on April 16,1948. She and LeBaron resided in Gloucester through 1959, except for one year spent in California. Subsequently, they moved to Rockport and remained residents for the rest of their lives.
She is survived by children, LeBaron L. Hazen Jr. and fiancee Antonia Gelasakis of Manchester-by-the-Sea, Royal W. Hazen of Gloucester, Alison Peterson and husband Jim of Rockport, and Amanda Hazen of Rockport. Grandchildren include LeBaron L Hazen III and wife Andrea of New York, Nicole Marchant and husband Greg of Gloucester, Megan Peterson and Ross Donovan, both volunteering in La Fortuna Costa Rica, Alaina and Chris Bouchie both of Rockport, and Airman Jamie Peterson stationed in New Mexico. She is also survived by great-grandchildren, Brenna, Charlotte , Molly and Declan Hazen of New York, Vivian and Violet Marchant of Gloucester, and Halle Bouchie of Rockport. Additionally, she is survived by sister, Ginger Cluett and brother-in-law, Hubie Cluett; sister, Faye Jackson and brother-in-law, Neil Jackson; and brother, Alvin Borge all of Gloucester; sister, Jocelyn (Larkin) Rogers of Amador City, Calif.; and brother, Brian Larkin of Florida; brother-in-law, Stanley Michelson and sister-in-law, Diane (Hazen) Michelson, both of Florida; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sister, Jan (Larkin) Dunn of Gloucester.
Sylvia was a kind and loving mother who always put her children first and wanted only the best for them. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and had a unique, creative and personal knowledge of horticulture. She loved North Conway, being in the mountains and looked forward to yearly trips to the White Mountains. Always an animal lover, she loved her dogs dearly. She also enjoyed feeding and watching birds (and squirrels) in her yard. She will be very much missed by all who knew and loved her
In keeping with her wishes, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name may be made to the Cape Ann Animal Aid, 260 Main St., Gloucester, MA 01930, or to a charity of one's choice.
