Salem: Eugene Savard, age 88 of Salem died Thursday, March 10, 2011 at the Blueberry Hill Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Beverly. He was the devoted husband of Margaret M. (Hackett) Dionne Savard.
Born and raised in Salem, he was the son of the late Alexis and Louise (Claise) Savard. An Army and Air Force career man, he first served with the Army Air Corps during W.W. II and transferred to the Air Force just prior to the Korean Conflict. Following his 20 years of service, Gene returned to Salem and first worked for Gauthier Motors as a mechanic. He retired from the City of Salem Park Department in 1981.
Gene was a life long resident of Salem and member of the V.F.W. Post 1524 of Salem and the American Legion Post 23. He was a member of the former St. Joseph Parish of Salem.
In addition to his wife Peggy, he is survived by 6 nieces and nephews, Louis & Jessie Thibault , Paul & Marie Thibault all of Danvers, Henry & Joyce Thibault, Herb & Jan Plourde all of Beverly, Eileen Almon of Lynn and Susan Plourde of New Jersey. He is also survived by 4 step-children, Margaret Dionne of Hingham, Mary & Dan Matheson of Virginia, Patricia & Wayne Dickinson of Connecticut, Doris and Frank Nadeau of Pennsylvania and Gail Dionne of Beverly. He was predeceased by his first wife, Jeannette Tremblay, a step-son, John Dionne, a brother Arthur Savard and three sisters, Laura Thibault, Louise Plourde and Eva Bates.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Rt. 114 / 1-A] Salem on Monday, March 14, 2011 at 8:30 a.m. for an hour of visitation to be followed by his funeral mass in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 1 Margin St on the Salem / Peabody line at 10 a.m. Burial will be private.
