Raymond E. Morris, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, died on Thursday, March 10, 2011 at Life Care Center in Stoneham following an extended illness. He was 96 years old.
Ray was born in Boston on September 12, 1914 to the late William F. and Elizabeth (Baker) Morris. He grew up in Charlestown where he attended St. Francis De Sales Parochial School and graduated from Charlestown High School. He enlisted into the United States Navy on October 23, 1942 and served his country proudly and honorably during World War II. He was discharged on September 30, 1945 with the rank of Motor Machinist Mate First Class. Ray worked for 47 years as a machinist at United Car Fastener and retired in 1980. Ray was a lifetime member of Logan V.F.W. Post # 26 of Somerville. Ray enjoyed bowling in his spare time.
Ray is the beloved husband of 73 years to the late Marion F. "Fran" (Levine) Morris who passed away on July 22, 2010. He is the devoted father of Harriet O'Donnell and her husband Philip of Medford, Janet Woods of Charlestown, Roberta Freeman of Revere, Raymond E. Morris Jr. and his wife Judi of Florida, Samuel A. Morris and his wife Marina of Charlestown and Philip Morris and his wife Carol of Brighton. He is the loving grandfather of 15 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. He is the beloved brother of the late Rita Swales, Gus, William, George and Victor Morris. He is the beloved uncle of Paul Morris of Florida.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Raymond's Funeral on Monday, March 14, 2011 at 9 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 a.m. Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, March 12, 2011 from 2 to 6 p.m.
