Gerald D. “Jerry” McCarthy age 67, of Plymouth died unexpectedly Wednesday March 9, 2011 at the Jordan Hospital. He was the devoted husband for over 40 years of Ellen E. (Stanford) McCarthy. Jerry was born in the Bronx, NY and was a graduate of Brookline High School. For many years he had lived in Brockton before retiring to Plymouth in 2003.
During the Vietnam era Jerry had served in the US Air Force. He retired from the Northrup Corporation after 20 years during which time he was elected union steward. For many years Jerry had been a Little League coach in the Brockton West and Easton leagues. He especially enjoyed watching his grandson Ryan’s involvement in sports during his school years. In his free time Jerry enjoyed fishing, working outdoors and most importantly time spent with his family.
In addition to his wife, Jerry is survived by his son Daniel J. McCarthy, co-owner of Whitey & Mac’s Landscaping, and his wife Debra of South Easton. He was the loving Papa of Ryan McCarthy of South Easton and brother of Paul McCarthy of Chicago, IL and Ellen McCarthy of Oceanside, CA. He also leaves several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Sunday 4-7 pm. Funeral Service in the funeral home Monday at 9 am. Burial in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
