Stephen J. Dorsey Jr., age 67, of Griswold, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday morning at Backus Hospital after being stricken at his home.
Born in New London on April 16, 1943 the son of Stephen J. Dorsey Sr. and Phyllis Maynard Dorsey.
He was raised in Groton where you could always find him playing baseball or basketball. After his graduation from Fitch High School, he worked as a pipefitter at Electric Boat until his retirement in the 1990’s. After his retirement, he accepted a position at Foxwoods Resort & Casino.
He and his wife Beverly (Chipperfield) Dorsey lived in Groton before making their home in Griswold where he enjoyed spending time tinkering in his workshop and working in his yard. He had a passion for cooking and especially loved to bake cookies and pies for the holidays.
In recent years, as his health began to decline, he spent most of his time watching and caring for the birds in his yard. Above all, he will be remembered as an avid New York Yankees fan.
In addition to his wife Beverly, he is survived by his sons, Stephen III of Fla., Andrew (Angelica) of Waterford, Dean of Killingly, and daughter Debra of Westerly, RI; his sisters, Janice (Bob) Watrous of Groton, and Linda Dorsey of Groton; and 9 grandchildren whom her cherished. He was predeceased by an infant daughter.
A Memorial service will be conducted at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Saturday at 11am. The Rev. Mark Porizky, Pastor of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Burial will be private at the family plot at Elm Grove Cemetery, Mystic.
