Obituary

NORFOLK—Eleanor “Ellie” Marie (Picone) Burke 76, of Norfolk, passed away peacefully at home on March 9, 2011, surrounded by family and loved ones. She was the beloved wife of Robert T. Burke for 51 years.
Born August 29, 1934 in Norwood, a daughter of the late Lawrence O. Picone Sr. and Marion E. (Evans) Picone, she was raised in Norfolk and was a 1955 graduate of the Peabody School in Norwood. Until her retirement in 1998, she worked as an electronic technician for Ciba Corning.
After completing her education, she fell in love and later married Bob in 1959. Following their marriage they moved to Franklin, where she lived until moving back to Norfolk, to build a home on land she grew up on.
Ellie was an avid quilter, holding weekly quilting sessions at her home, a talented artist, square dancer; she loved gardening, and enjoyed seeing the country in her motor home with her husband and fellow member of FMCA. She enjoyed a very active retirement and greatly enjoyed her friends and freedom. Ellie loved to laugh.
Providing comfort to her in her final days in addition to her husband, are her children, Cheryl Burke of Foster City, California, & Eric Burke and his wife Kelley of Anderson, South Carolina.
Also surviving are her siblings Valerie Jones of Foxboro, Lawrence Picone Jr. of Norfolk, & Maria Fitzpatrick of Florida.
She was the devoted “Nana” to Trevor Brown of Foster City, CA.
She was the sister of the late Shirley Barstow, William Picone and Nancy Dietzel.
You will always be loved.
Ellie’s family would like to thank the Caritas Hospice and Palliative Care team for the care given to her, during her illness.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation on Friday March 11th, from 3-5PM in the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. FRANKLIN, www.oterifuneralhome.com.
