Obituary

Mary Coleman Dix, 78, of Fitzgerald, died Tuesday, January 13, 2004, at Dorminy Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 P.M. Thursday, January 15, 2004 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Rebecca with Rev. Gene Ramsey and Rev. Lewis Coleman officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Remains will lie in state at 180 Van Demon Court, Fitzgerald, from 4 PM, Wednesday until 2 PM, Thursday.

Mrs. Dix was born, May 31, 1925 in Turner County, Georgia to the late Silas A. and Georgia Minchew Coleman. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Webster Dix and son, Dallas Young. Mrs. Dix lived in Ben Hill and Irwin counties most of her life and attended New Tapley School and the Irwinville schools. She owned and operated the City Café in Fitzgerald for 34 years and during World War II, worked as a machinist at Robins Air Force Base. Mrs. Dix was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Rebecca.

Survivors include: daughter-in-law, June Young, Fitzgerald; three grandchildren: Martin Young, Fitzgerald, Duane Young, Jacksonville, NC and Steven Young, Valdosta; three great grandchildren; Audrey, Analisa and Bryan Young; brother: Ken Coleman, Irwinville and sister: Polly C. Rogers, Rebecca.
