Earl T. Peterson, Sr., 84, of Mansfield passed away peacefully on Wednesday March 9, 2011 at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center in Providence, Rhode Island. He was the beloved husband of the late Olga (Kashtan) Peterson, to whom he was married for 50 years, at the time of her death on January 18, 2001.
Born in Walpole, MA on January 12,1927, he was a loving son of the late Carl and Jessie (Briggs) Peterson.
Earl grew up in Walpole, was educated in Walpole public schools and was a graduate of Walpole High School. During WWII, he proudly served his country in the United States Army prior to being honorably discharged.
Before retiring, Mr. Peterson was a Driller and had been employed for over 40 years at the Guild Drilling Co. in East Providence, Rhode Island. Following retirement he had worked part time for several years as a Recycling Attendant for the Town of Mansfield.
A resident of Mansfield for over 60 years, Earl was a member of the Mansfield Congregational Church and enjoyed attending meetings at the Mansfield Historical Society
His favorite times spent were those in the presence of his loving family and was affectionately known as “Papa” by his grandchildren and “Big Papa” by his great grandchildren.
He is survived by his devoted children June C. Simpson and her husband David of Mansfield, Earl T. “Ted” Peterson, Jr. of Wrentham, Wayne P. Peterson and his wife Linda of Mansfield and Glen E. Peterson of Mansfield. The dear brother of the late Edna Haskins, Eleanor Polakowski and Wayne Peterson, Mr. Peterson is also survived by his cherished grandchildren David Simpson and his wife Laura, Darren Simpson and his wife Joanne, Kristen Simpson, Kevin Peterson, Amanda O’Shea and her husband Dan and Shaun Peterson, his adoring great grandchildren Aiden, Kaleigh and Nicholas as well as several nieces, nephews and his close friend Dorothy York of Mansfield.
Funeral services, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Monday March 14th at 10:00 A.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield. Burial will follow in the Spring Brook Cemetery, Mansfield.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday March 13th from 2-6 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home.
