M. Rita (Slavin) Higgins, 96, of Medway died March 7 in the Medway Country Manor. She was the wife of the late Charles J. Higgins Sr. who died in 1984.
Born in Milford, May 29, 1914, the daughter of the late Thomas and Hannah (Saul) Slavin, Mrs. Higgins was a lifelong Medway resident.
Mrs. Higgins had been the dispatcher for the Town of Medway Police-Fire Department for over 35 years before retiring. She had previously worked as a telephone operator for the New England Telephone Company.
Mrs. Higgins was a member of the Catholic Daughters, Court of St. Joseph in Medway for many years.
She is survived by her children, the Rev. Charles J. Higgins Jr. of St. Joseph Parish, Kingston and Linda Lucier and her husband Patrick of Millis.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kelly O’Hearn and her husband Andrew of Medway and Katelyn Sullivan of South Boston.
Her funeral will be held on Saturday, March 12 from the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber St. in Medway at 9:15 followed by a funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church in Medway at 10:00 a.m.
Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Calling hours will be on Friday from 4-8 p.m.
