Julia L. (Barber) Sebastian, born in Norwich CT, formerly of Long Cove Road, Gales Ferry, went to her heavenly home on March 6, 2011 at age 103. Her husband, Roy E. Sebastian predeceased her after many years of happy marriage.
She is survived by her seven children, Roy E. Sebastian, wife Virginia of New London, Vera Leavy, husband William of Ledyard, Winifred Jones, husband James deceased of New London, Lawrence Sebastian of Ledyard, Donald Sebastian, wife Maggie of Groton, Gladys Hunt, husband Cameron of Trenton NJ, William Sebastian, deceased, wife Louise of New London, as well as 24 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.
Julia was always happy when she could be spending time with her children, her 24 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren, challenging them at games, pushing them to higher education, trying new recipes, passing them on for her children to keep, new potions for illness and love, love, love to all.
Julia was very spiritual who loved God and served him by taking part in worship, reading the scripture, ushering, and singing at United Methodist Church in New London where she was also an active member of the United Methodist Women and led the devotion as the spiritual coordinator.
She was blessed with many gifts and talents, receiving awards in archery, painting, ceramics, dancing, endurance, sewing, crocheting, jewelry, doll making, basket weaving and many more. Most of all she extended love to all around her.
She was an active Elder of the Eastern Pequot Tribal Nation for many years. She was an active member of the Ledyard Senior Center for many years and participated in all activities there, receiving booklets and praise on her 100 year birthday.
She belonged to a civic women's organization, Courts of Calonthions, (men in the organization were the Knights of Phities) of Westerly which assisted helping others in local communities.
Her love will be remembered by all who knew her.
The family will greet relatives and friends at the United Methodist Church of New London on Friday from 10 to 11am, followed by a service at 11am. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery, Mystic.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Ledyard Senior Center, 12 Van Tassel Dr., Gales Ferry, the Ledyard Visiting Nurse Association, 741 Colonel Ledyard Hwy, Ledyard CT or the United Methodist Church of New London.
