New Bedford – Michael “Mickey” Gomes, 64, of Fairhaven died March 5, 2011 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the husband of Louise C. Furtado Gomes.
Mr. Gomes was born in New Bedford, son of the late Michael and Florence (England) Gomes, and resided in the greater New Bedford area all of his life. He was employed by the City of New Bedford until his retirement. He enjoyed martial arts and was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan.
In addition to his widow, he is survived by 3 stepdaughters: LuAnn Melanson of New Bedford, Kathleen Furtado of Lake Pleasant, MA and Deborah Oliveira of New Bedford; 2 stepsons: Ernest M. Furtado and his wife Kathleen of New Bedford and Michael Furtado and his wife Tracy of Fairhaven; 14 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; 1 cousin: Robert Gomes of New Bedford; and his beloved dog Mindy.

Funeral from the funeral home on Thursday, March 10, 2011 at 9:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church, Fairhaven at 10:00 A.M.
Interment in River-side Cemetery, Fairhaven.
