Jack Douglas Devine 76, of Metamora passed away at 10:26pm Saturday March 5, 2011 at Proctor Hospital in Peoria. He was born on November 10, 1934 in Peoria, Illinois to Omer D. and Tessie M. (Brinkley) Devine. He married Sue Burry on July 28, 1956 in Decatur, Illinois. She survives.
Surviving are sons, Jack Daniel (Gina) Devine of Minonk, Alan Douglas Devine of Shepherd, TX, daughter Patricia Sue Devine of Brownsburg, IN.; seven grandchildren, four step grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his brother Stanley (Doris) Devine of Morton, and his sister Sharon (Rae) Heiple of Whitefish Bay, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Jack graduated from Washington High School in 1952 and from the St. Louis College of Pharmacy in 1956 and was a member of Rho Chi Pharmaceutical Honor Society and Pharmacy Mortar and Pestle Alumni Society. He established and owned Metamora Pharmacy from 1972-1998. He served as president of Central Illinois Pharmaceutical Association 1988-1989 which has honored him twice with their award of merit. Jack won the distinguished Bowl of Hygeia award for outstanding community service by a pharmacist in 1996. He was a member of the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists, American Pharmacist Association and National Community Pharmacists Association.
Jack served on the Metamora Township High School board for ten years. He was a longtime member of the Metamora Christian Union Church, where he had served on the church board. He was a 25 year member of the Metamora Business and Professional Club. He was a member of the national fresh water fishing hall of fame. He was a 42 year member of the Verlin M. Showalter Lodge # 1172 AF&AM in Bartonville, member of the Shriners of North America, and Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Peoria.
Jack enjoyed fishing in Wisconsin and Texas, golfing, and gardening. He was an inspiration to many and will be missed.
Funeral services will be at 11:00am Wednesday March 9, 2011 at the Metamora Christian Union Church with Rev. Gary Salm officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4pm until 7pm at the Mason Funeral Home Metamora Chapel and also one hour prior to services at church. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery in Washington Il.
