Obituary

George Caswell, age 81, of North Stonington, died Monday at Mystic Manor Nursing and Rehabiliation Center.

He was born in Stonington, CT on Oct. 8, 1922. George was married Nov. 10, 1943 to the late Gladys M. Singer in Stonington, CT.

He is predeceased by a son George S. Caswell Jr., and three grandsons George, Joshua, and Jeremy.

He is survived by his sons, Joseph Caswell, Louis Caswell, and John Caswell all of North Stonington, David Caswell of Groton, Elias Caswell of Ledyard, James Caswell of Stonington, Paul Caswell Sr. of Florida, a daughter Gladys L. Buck of North Stonington, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.

He served in the Philippines in WWII and was awarded the Silver Star and the Purple Heart. He was a life member of the North Stonington VFW.

George worked for the railroad in New Haven, the American Velvet Mill in Stonington and retired from the Laborer’s Local 547 in Groton, CT and the Town of North Stonington, CT.

George lived in North Stonington for over 60 years.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the North Stonington VFW.

A memorial service will be held at the Second Baptist Church on Route 49 in North Stonington, Saturday, January 24, 2004 at 1:00pm. There are no visiting hours.
