Obituary

Erma E. (Kise) Hynes, 92, of New Bedford died peacefully of natural causes on Friday March 4, 2011. She was the wife of the late Edward A. Hynes; they had been married for 65 years.

Born in Washington, D.C., the daughter of the late Percy L. and Emma (Graves) Kise, she lived in Washington for many years. She moved to Fairhaven in the 1970s, and later resided in New Bedford.

She was a member of the Unitarian Memorial Church in Fairhaven.

Mrs. Hynes was formerly employed as a clerical worker for the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare in Washington until her retirement.

She was a member of the Colonial Club and the Women's Alliance of the Unitarian Church. She had been a volunteer at the Market Ministries Soup Kitchen.


Her family would like to thank the people at the Dartmouth Senior Center, Brandon Woods of Dartmouth, and New England Hospice for the kindness and care extended to Erma.

Survivors include her children, Edward L. Hynes and his wife Lisa of Bryantown, MD, and Deborah L. Hynes of New Bedford; her granddaughter, Emily H. Saunders of New Bedford; her special friends, Carol Oliva and Doris Baptista, who visited her often; and a niece and several nephews.

She was the mother-in-law of the late Paul F. Saunders, and sister of the late Paul L. Kise.

Her Memorial Service will be held on Saturday March 12, 2011 at 1 PM at the Unitarian Memorial Church, Fairhaven. Visiting hours are omitted. Burial will be in Congressional Cemetery, Washington, D.C.
