Frances Bernice Poignant, age 95, died at Snyder Village in Metamora, IL on ¬¬¬Thursday, March 3, 2011.
She was born on May 28, 1915 in East Moline to John Carl and Myrtle (Myers) Gromm. She married Frank Poignant on December 14, 1935 in East Moline. He preceded her in death on April 27, 2000. Also, preceding her in death were two infant sons: Stanley and Jay Cee Poignant, one brother Russell Gromm and one sister Lela May.
Surviving are two sons: Phillip of East Peoria and Randy (Mary) of Washington and one daughter: Judy (John) Schaer of East Peoria, five grandchildren: Kellie (Dennis) Clark of Lowell, IN; Ken (Mardell) Schaer of Metamora and Joey (Todd) Courtney of Washington, Christy Randall of Lincoln and Brent (Ashley) Randall of Pegram, TN. Also surviving are three great- grandchildren: Alec and Grayson Schaer and Trinity Clark. Others include four step grandchildren and 12 step great-grandchildren.
She graduated from East Moline high school and assisted her husband in farming in the Metamora area until they retired in 1979. Bernice was an active league bowler for many years, had a tremendous joy of traveling with Peoria Charter Coach and loved being with her friends, family and her extended church family at the RiversEdge United Methodist church in Spring Bay of which she was a lifelong member.
Funeral services will be at 2:00pm Sunday, March 6 at the RiversEdge United Methodist church in Spring Bay with Rev. Dr. Joe Richard officiating. Visitation will be one hour before her service also at the church. Burial will be in the Lacon Cemetery in Lacon, IL. Memorials may be made to her church’s building fund.
