John Patrick Clifford, 55, passed away March 3rd, 2011 after a long battle with cancer. He was born August 8th, 1955 in Fall River, Massachusetts. He was the beloved son of Thomas T. and Margaret M. (Clemmey) Clifford. He attended schools in Dighton and was a 1973 graduate of Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School. After high school, he attended Providence College and graduated in 1979.
He was an avid sports fan, following the Bruins, Patriots, Red Sox and the Providence College Friars. For many years he generously donated his time and expertise to the Boston Marathon, Falmouth Road Race and the Deutsche Bank Championship at TPC-Norton. He also worked as an official for basketball, field hockey and lacrosse throughout New England.
John is survived by two sisters, Rosemary Borden and her husband, David of North Dighton and Nancy Curtin and her husband James of Needham as well as two brothers, Thomas Clifford Jr. and his wife Lynn of Rehoboth and William Clifford and his wife Kelly of Hooksett, NH. He leaves behind nine nieces, Caryn and Cheryl Borden, Brooke and Rebecca Clifford, Kate and Deirdre Curtin and Meaghan, Tara and Rileigh Clifford as well as four nephews, Christopher Borden and his wife Kay, Matthew, Liam, and Patrick Clifford as well as one great-nephew, Malcolm Borden.
Calling hours are 2 to 6 pm at O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington Street in Taunton on Sunday, March 6th. Funeral from the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home on Monday at 10 am. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, March 7th at 11 am at St. Nicholas of Myra Church, Spring Street, North Dighton followed by burial at St. Francis Cemetery on North Walker Street in Taunton.
