WILMINGTON - Catherine F. "Kay" (O'Brien) Graham, 91, died peacefully Friday, March 4, 2011 at the Winchester Hospital after a long period of declining health. She was the beloved wife of the late James J. Graham who died in 1970. She was born in Boston on March 16, 1919, and raised in Charlestown, a daughter of the late Jeremiah and Annie (Sullivan) O'Brien. She moved to Wilmington in 1947, where her family had vacationed before becoming town residents. She was a housemother at the University of Lowell offering comfort and care to many students before the program was eliminated. She retired from the housekeeping department with a legacy of comical stories still shared by family and friends. She generously devoted her life to her family and church as a daily communicant at St. Dorothy Church, a CCD Teacher, and Sodality Member. Her devotion continued by leading the weekly rosary at Woodbriar Nursing Home after becoming a resident there. Her stories and songs will be remembered by many.
She is survived by her three sons and daughters-in-law; James J. and his wife Gail (Deputat) Graham of Tewksbury, Keith P. Graham of York, ME, Kevin and his wife Samantha (Young) Graham of Georgetown, two daughters; Ann Marie Graham of Haverhill, Katherine A. Sirbak of Wilmington, fifteen grandchildren; Kelly Serafino of Lawrence, Joseph Sirbak of Townsend, Brian Sirbak of IN, Michelle Guthrie of FL, James Graham of NV, Dennis Graham of Tewksbury, Julianne Morse of ME, Patrick and Sean Graham both of ME, Candace and Kayleigh Graham both of Lawrence, Macadam and Laken Graham both of Georgetown, Robert DeCoste of Haverhill, Ryan Silva of Haverhill, nineteen great grandchildren, one great great grandson, a sister; Ann Stygles of Wilmington, a brother; Martin O'Brien of Charlestown many nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Mary Lee, Thomas O'Brien, Edward O'Brien, and Vincent O'Brien.
Her Funeral Mass was celebrated Tuesday, March 8, in St. Dorothy's Church, Wilmington. Burial followed at Wildwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions to Lowell Association for Blind, 169 Merrimack St., 2ND FLR, Lowell, MA 01852, will be appreciated.
