Obituary

Thomas L. “Tom” Davis, 90, went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 3, 2011 in Danville.

Born May 6, 1920 in Danville, he was the son of the late Martin K. Davis and Agnes Harville Davis. He retired in 1982 after a number of years with Blackwell Motor Company.

He served in the U.S. Air Force in World War II in the Pacific Theater of Operations as an aerial gunner on a B-24 bomber. He belonged to the 11th Bomb Group Of The 7th Air Force and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with five clusters, Asiatic Pacific Medal, and Good Conduct Medal.

A lifelong resident of Danville, Mr. Davis was a longtime member of Shelton Memorial Presbyterian Church. He was also a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion Post 1097, AARP Senior Citizens Club, life member of Knights of Pythias #62 and Schoolfield Friendship Club. He was a member of the International Order of Redmen, Past Great Sachem Poquoson Tribe #125, and a member of Wyanette Council Degree of Pocohontas.

Survivors include his wife, Ava L. Davis, daughters Carol Boles of Mechanicsville, Virginia, Suzanne Matsumoto of Ft. Myers, Florida, and son Martin Davis of New Orleans, Louisiana, as well as two granddaughters and three great-granddaughters. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by brothers Clarence Harville, Kemper Davis, and sisters Polly Taylor and Ethel Oskey Holt.

Funeral services officiated by Rev. Paul Johnson will be held on Sunday, March 6, 2011 at 2 p.m. at the Shelton Memorial Presbyterian Church. Interment with graveside military honors by the American Legion Post 1097 Honor Guard will follow in Highland Burial Park.

The family will receive friends at Swicegood Funeral Home on Saturday, March 5, 2011 from 6 until 8 p.m., and at other times they will be at the residence, 138 Scales Street, Danville.
