Obituary

Lloyd Robert “Bob” Douglass, 77, died Tuesday evening, March 1, 2011 in the Kaplan Family Hospice House following a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Roberta “Bobbie” (Anderson) Douglass, with whom he shared fifty-seven years of marriage.
Born in Quincy on Dec. 9, 1933, he was the son of the late Lloyd and Dorothy (Bannister) Douglass. He was raised and educated in Milton and was a graduate of Milton High School. He was also a graduate of New England School of Appliance and served for several years in the US Naval Reserves.
Bob owned and operated Douglass Appliance in Danvers. For forty-four years, Bob worked alongside his wife, children, and grandchildren in the business he and his wife started together in 1967.
A longtime Danvers resident, Bob was a past member of the Danvers Lions Club and past president of the Sunday Night Bowling League at Sunnyside. He enjoyed snowmobiling, ice fishing, and skiing with his family and was a loving “Bumpa” to his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children and their spouses, Debra and Jeff Lathrop of Amesbury, Brenda and Scott Ferris of Danvers, Diana and Kurt Young of Kingston, NH, Lloyd and Susan Douglass Jr. of Beverly, John and Patricia Douglass of Danvers, and Glenn Douglass of Danvers, fifteen grandchildren, Lloyd III, Joseph, Matthew, John Jr., Brian, Andrew, and Todd Douglass, Jenn Page, Jacki Dion, Jodi Ellsworth, Mimi Ferris, Holly Landry, Scott Ferris, Jr. and Nikki and Emily Janvier, 5 great-grandchildren, four sisters, Barbara Carey, Ruth Meucci, Donna Sassone, and Marilyn Archibald, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Paul Douglass.
His Funeral Service will be Monday, March 7, 2011 at 11AM in the Holy Trinity United Methodist Church, 16 Sylvan St., Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Sunday from 3-7PM in C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob’s memory may be made to the Danvers People-to-People Food Pantry, P.O. Box 2076, Danvers, MA 01923 or a charity of your choice.
