Barbara E. Gegenheimer, 87

Dateline: Norton, MA

Barbara E. (Reimer) Gegenheimer, 87, of Norton passed away in the comfort of her home on Tuesday March 1, 2011. She was the beloved wife of Winthrop T. Gegenheimer, to whom she was wed on December 22, 1945.
Born in New Haven, CT on January 16, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Rudolph and Esther (Ferris) Reimer.
Barbara grew up in West Haven, CT, was educated in West Haven public schools and was 1941 graduate of West Haven High School. Prior to her marriage, she was employed as a bank secretary in New Haven.
A dedicated homemaker to her adoring family, Mrs. Gegenheimer had made her home in Norton for the past 59 years and had formerly resided in Mansfield for 7 years.
Barbara was a member of the Trinitarian Congregational Church in Norton, where her first love and priority was teaching Sunday School, of which she taught for 42 years. She was affectionately known as “Mrs. G” to the third and fourth graders at the church, and for her many years of faithful teaching , Mrs. Gegenheimer received the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Massachusetts Conference of the United Church of Christ and was presented with “The Lamp of Learning Cup” at the State Conference in Holyoke in 1997. Her hobbies included taking pictures of birds and fall foliage
In addition to her husband of over 65 years, Mrs. Gegenheimer is survived by her loving daughter and son in law Marilyn and Robert Jordan of Mansfield. She was the sister in law of Helen Kennedy of New Hampshire and is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Saturday March 5th from 2-4 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton.
A funeral service will be held at the conclusion of visiting hours on Saturday at 4:00 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home. Private burial will be held in the Norton Center Cemetery, Norton.
In lieu of flowers, Barbara’s family has requested that donations in her memory be made to the Trinitarian Congregational Church P.O. Box 2068 Norton, MA 02766, with proceeds to be used for the church Sunday School Program.
