Mrs. Ila Lorene Hooker, age 87, of King, passed away from this earthly life to begin her new heavenly life on Sunday evening, February 27, 2011. She was at her home, Priddy Manor, in King, North Carolina. Our Aunt Lorene was born on December 12, 1923 in Stokes County to Joseph Nicholas and Amanda Gordon Hooker. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two of her sisters, Sally Eaton, the wife of the late Richard E. Eaton and Josephine Combs; the wife of the late Grady F. Combs. She is survived by her sister Maxine O’Neil of Abington, Pennsylvania; the wife of the late James F. O’Neill. Aunt Lorene is survived by six nieces and nephews, Cletus Combs and wife Delores, Oberia Combs Coker and husband Jerry, Geneva Eaton Dockery and husband Ronnie, Douglas Eaton and wife Linda, Jim O’Neill and wife Linda, Mary O’Neill and her loving cousin, friend, and long term care giver Rae Baker. A graveside service, in celebration of Aunt Lorene’s life, will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church in King, on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at 11:30 AM. The graveside service will be led by Mrs. Julile Farmer of Priddy Manor and the Reverend David Childers, pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church. Because of her love for her church and her church family, it was Aunt Lorene’s request that memorials be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 725 W. Dalton Road, King, NC 27021. Flowers will also be accepted. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Peter Jung, the dedicated and loving staff at Priddy Manor, and the wonderful caregivers from the Hospice and Palliative Care Center.
