WEBSTER – Robert L. Remington, 73, of Orchard Ave., died Friday, February 25, 2011 in Harrington Healthcare at Hubbard after being stricken ill at home.
He leaves his wife of 49 years, Marilyn (Ernst) Remington; 3 sons, Mark A. Remington and his fiancé Mi Carnaghan of Attleboro, Michael C. Remington and his wife Rachel of Layton, Utah, and Christopher D. Remington and his wife Sarah of Medfield; 6 grandchildren, Mia, Megan, Michael, Jessi, Hailie and Sam; a brother, Ward Remington and his wife Paula of West Springfield; his “second family” and neighbors, Walter Gardner, Sr. and Lori Gardner and their children Alyssa and Walter, Jr; nephews and nieces.
He was born in West Springfield and raised in Springfield, the son of Arthur and Mabel (Rattman) Remington. He graduated from Commerce High School in Springfield in 1955 and attended American International College. He lived in Westfield before moving to Webster in 1970.
He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam Era.
Mr. Remington was an estimator at Smirfit Stone in Mansfield before retiring in 2000.
He enjoyed golfing for over 50 years and was a longtime member of the Nichols Golf Club. He was a devoted family man.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 2, in Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main Street. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday, March 1, in the funeral home. Donations in his name may be made to either the Webster-Dudley Boys & Girls Club, 55 Oxford Ave., Dudley, MA 01571 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
