Mildred A. (Francis) Barry, 82, of New Bedford died Saturday January 10, 2004 at Hathaway Manor Extended Care Facility after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Thomas P. Barry.
A lifelong resident of New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Angelina (Gracia) Francis.
She was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church.
Mrs. Barry was formerly employed as the Clerk of Committees for the City of New Bedford for many years until her retirement. She had previously held adminstrative positions with Fisher Junior College and the United States Census Bureau.
She was a member of the Catholic Women's Club and had served as a Trustee of the New Bedford Free Public Library. She was a graduate of New Bedford High School and Southeastern Massachusetts University, where she received both a Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree in Business Administration.
Survivors include 2 sons, Joseph F. Barry of Dana Point, California, and Thomas P. Barry, Jr., of Manchester; 3 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Ida F. Furtado, Elsie M. Gracia, Gilbert J. Francis, and Edward S. Francis.

Visiting hours will be on Monday January 12, 2004 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.
