Mrs. Kate Lankford, age 99, widow of the late Harry Lankford, of Lawsonville, passed away on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at Stokes Reynolds Memorial Hospital. She was born in Stokes County on February 8, 1912 to the late Matthew and Margaret Mabe. Mrs. Lankford worked as a homemaker and was a member of Piney Grove Primitive Baptist Church. Mrs. Lankford is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Ernest and Nora Lankford of Danbury; one son-in-law, Bobby Joe Tilley of Lawsonville; one sister, Annie Rhodes; two grandchildren, Wayne (Anna) Tilley of Lawsonville and Brad (Lisa) Lankford of Danbury; six great grandchildren, Joey (Tempy) Tilley, Ashley Tilley, Tanna Tilley, Connor Lankford, Christina Lankford and Lucus Lankford; one great-great grandchild, Baylee Tilley; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Lankford is preceded in death by her husband; parents; one son, William Lankford; one daughter, Dorothy Tilley; one daughter-in-law, Carolyn Lankford; four brothers, Roscoe, Sam, Paul and Tom Mabe; three sisters, Vina Priddy, Juanita Rhodes and Gladys Slate; and one grandchild, Michelle Lankford. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, February 25, 2011 at Cox-Needham Danbury Chapel at 2:00 P.M with the Elder Milton Gunter and Rev. Roy Little officiating with interment to follow at Cedar Fall Primitive Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 24, 2011 from 6-9 PM at Cox-Needham Funeral Home in Danbury. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cedar Fall Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Lynn Whitaker 1914 Hall Road, Westfield, NC 27053.
