HAVERHILL: John A. Mullane, 77, died Wednesday, February 23, 2011 in the Merrimack Valley Hospice House surrounded by his family.
Born in Brighton on April 18, 1933 he was the son of the late Michael and Mary (Calvey) Mullane. He was a graduate of St. Columbkille School in Brighton. He also received his Associate’s Degree from Boston University.
A U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War, John served as an aircraft mechanic until he was honorably discharged in 1955. He went on to work for American Airlines for thirty six years as an aircraft mechanic, until his retirement in 1995.
John had a love for traveling, especially with his daughters. One of his favorite spots to visit was Hawaii. He had also been to Australia, took an Alaskan cruise and enjoyed a train ride across Canada. Being a New Englander, he was a big fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots.
He is survived by his three daughters and sons-in-law, Theresa M. and Stephen O. Sansevero of Haverhill, Christine F. and Michael J. LaRuffa of Hershey, PA, and Kathleen J. and Jeffrey W. Gallison of Windham, NH; three grandchildren, Alex J. and Kelly M. Noonan both of Haverhill and Jeff M. LaRuffa of Hershey, PA; a sister, Hester Tabak of Huntington, Long Island, NY; and his former wife and friend, Dorothea J. Mullane of Salem, NH. He was also predeceased by his brother, Michael Mullane in 2010.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday in the St. James Church, 161 Winter St., Haverhill at 10:00 a.m. Visiting hours will be held in the Linnehan-Grondin Funeral Home, 129 Kenoza Avenue, Haverhill on Sunday from 4 – 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the National Pancreas Foundation, 101 Federal St., Suite 1900, Boston, MA 02110. Interment will be held in the St. James Cemetery, Haverhill.
