Edwin Julius Revels, Sr., 78, of Tifton died Wednesday, February 23, 2011, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Kelltown. Rev. Kevin Harris will officiate with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Steve Webb, Jason Poppell, Tyler Revels, Wayne Moore, Russell Wilson, Andy Parrish, Dennis Sheppard and Donnie Revels will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Whitehead, Sonny Hamilton, Glenn McBrayer, Roland Shaw, Jimmy Tucker, Bill Warren and Doodle Thomoson. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 25, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mr. Revels was born on December 31, 1932 in Tifton and was the son of Allie Marie Connell Revels of Tifton and the late Julius Herbert Revels. He was a graduate of Tift County High School and attended South Georgia College in Douglas for two years. He served for two years in the United States Army and retired from Georgia Power Company after 34 years as a line foreman. He was a member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Kelltown.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Revels is survived by his wife of 56 years, Helen C. Revels of Tifton; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Edwin Julius Jr. and Tina Revels, of Adel and Terry Revels of Tifton; one daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Steve Poppell of Tifton; and a sister and brother-in-law, Greta and Frank Sinclair of Tifton; five grandchildren, Jason Poppell and his wife, Valerie of Tifton, Jade Revels of Tifton, Carrie Revels of Adel, Tyler Revels of Tifton and Brock Revels of Adel; and one great grandchild, Jaxson Poppell of Tifton
