Obituary

Russell H. "Raz" Murray, a 44 year resident of Saugus and formerly of Charlestown, died on Monday, February 21, 2011 at Lahey Clinic in Burlington following a courageous battle with cancer. He was 74 years old.

Raz was born in Boston and grew up in Charlestown, where he attended Boston Public Schools. Raz enlisted into the United States Marine Corps in 1954 and served his country proudly and honorably during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1955. Following his discharge, he joined the Iron Workers Union Local # 7 and worked as an iron worker for more than 35 years. He retired in 1995. Raz was a former player/manager for the former Charlestown Townies Football Team in the 1960's and 70's. He was a former coach for Saugus Youth Hockey and Saugus Babe Ruth Baseball Teams. He was a member of The Malden Irish American Club, The Old Charlestown Schoolboys Association and a recent employee of Bear Hill Golf Club in Stoneham.

Raz is the beloved husband of 54 years to Evelyn (McNamara) Murray. He is the devoted father of Brian M. Murray of Boston, Shawn Murray of Saugus, Russell Murray and his wife Kathryn of Baltimore, Maryland and Timothy Murray and his wife Kristine of Beverly. He is the proud and loving Grampy to Griffin, Colin and Julia. He is the beloved brother of Louise Pinard of Arlington, Robert Murray and his wife Joan of Medford, Paul Murray and his wife Shirley of Charlestown, Joan Gorman of Medford and Jack Murray and his wife Marie of Wilmington.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Raz's Funeral on Friday, February, 25, 2011 at 9 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 a.m. Interment at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Visiting hours will be on Thursday, February, 24, 2011 from 4 to 8 p.m.
