Leon T. Shugrue

...Boston & Maine retiree; 84

DRACUT - Leon T. Shugrue, age 84, died Thursday evening, Jan. 8, at the Tewksbury Hospitalfollowing a two year period of declining health. He was the husband of Pauline Y. (Dupont)Shugrue, who died in 1975.

He was born in North Chelmsford, a son of the late Charles F. and Laura (Miner) Shugrue, on Sept. 7, 1919. He was raised in the Vinal Square section ofNorth Chelmsford. He graduated Chelmsford High School.

During WWII, he enlisted into the U.S. Navy, and served aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise in thePacific Theater.

He later moved to Dracut, and became a conductor and brakeman for the Boston and MainRailroad. He retired from the B & M, because of an industrial accident. He maintained hismembership in the National Railroad Retirement Association.

He was a longtime member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Dracut, and the church’sMen’s Club.

He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Michael Bonetti of Lynn; a son anddaughter-in-law, Leon “Ted” Jr. and Ruth (Simollari) Shugrue of Tewksbury; four grandchildren, James Shugrue of Methuen, Joseph Shugrue of Dover, NH, Brett Shugrue and Scott Shugrueboth of Tewksbury; a sister, Marjorie Shugrue of No. Chelmsford; a sister-in-law, Marguerite(Larkin) Shugrue of No. Chelmsford.He was also brother of the late Charles F. Shugrue.

His Funeral Mass was held Tuesday, Jan. 13, in St. William’s Church. Interment was in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Lowell.
