TEWKSBURY: Frederick F. Maguire, Jr., age 68, a resident of Tewksbury for 35 years, passed away on Saturday, February 19, 2011, at home, with his family at his side.
He was the beloved husband of Janet A. (Halliday) Maguire, with whom he celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary on January 28, 2011.
Born in Newton on February 28, 1942, he was the son of the late Frederick F. Maguire, Sr. and the late Margaret (Lavelle) Maguire.
Mr. Maguire was raised in the Newtonville area of Newton. He attended Our Lady Help of Christians Parochial School and Newton North High School.
In 1959, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was awarded several decorations for his military service including the Rifle Sharpshooter Badge, the Pistol Marksmanship Badge and the Good Conduct Medal.
Prior to his retirement in 1996, he was employed as a supervisor by the Polaroid Company in Waltham, where he worked for 32 years.
Mr. Maguire resided in Burlington until moving to Tewksbury in 1976.
He was a member of the Tewksbury-Wilmington Elks # 2070 and the Tewksbury Rod & Gun Club.
He enjoyed numerous activities including; tinkering in his garage, fishing, boating, playing scratch tickets and taking a chance on the daily lottery game.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by four children, Annette M. Janek and her husband Steve of Virginia Beach, VA, Sharon A. Maguire of Tewksbury, Frederick J. Maguire of Ft. Sill, OK and his wife Debbie of Holbrook, MA, Donald J. Maguire and his wife Janine of Gilmanton, NH; one brother, John J. Maguire and his wife Mariellen of Framingham; three sisters, Mary K. DeMaio of Buzzards Bay, Margaret F. Mazzola of West Newton, and Patricia E. Carrafiello and her husband Michael of Waltham; also several grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Maguire was the brother-in-law of the late Joseph DeMaio and Joseph Mazzola.
Calling hours Wednesday, Feb. 23, from 4-8 p.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. His funeral will be held Thursday, Feb. 24, at 9 a.m., from the funeral home, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Williams Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury.
