GLOUCESTER: Carol A. (Nicastro) Costa, 72, of 56 Poplar Park died early Saturday morning, February 19, 2011 in the Seacoast Nursing & Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness. She was the wife of Carleton L. Costa, Jr.
Born in Gloucester on March 10, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Carolyn V. (Hayes) Nicastro and Baptista “Thida” Nicastro.
Carol was employed for many years as the assistant manager of the North Shore Movie Theater and the Gloucester Drive-In Theater. She had also been employed for numerous years at the Papa Gino’s in the East Gloucester Plaza.
She and Carl had resided in Daytona Beach, Florida from 1996 to 2006. Her outgoing personality led her to make friends quickly wherever she went. From Florida to Maine, they made many longtime friends that became their extended family. She loved music, dancing and playing bingo, but her greatest joy came from spending time with her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her husband of fifty-five years, she is survived by two daughters, Cecilia “Cindy” Furrow and her companion, Ron Eaton of Stonington, ME, Debby Nunes of Newburyport; four grandchildren, Cale, husband of Bobbi-Jo Roberts, Kristy Furrow, Robert Furrow, Jr. and Michael Nunes; three great-grandchildren, Kiara and Landon Roberts and Bowen Roberts, due in March; her stepmother, Elizabeth “Betty” Nicastro; three sisters and three brothers-in-law, Sera Orlando, Diane and William Hopkinson, and Cookie and Chester Smith , and Vincent, husband of Cindy Asaro. She also leaves her brother, John, whom she helped raise and thought of as a son, and his wife Julie Nicastro; as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins and dear friends. She was also predeceased by her son-in-law, Robert Furrow, sister, Phyllis Asaro, brother, Jeremiah “Jerry” Nicastro, and brother-in-law, Dominic Orlando.
Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday morning in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester at 11 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday evening from 4 – 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Interment will be held in the Calvary Cemetery.
