Obituary

Leocadia "Louise" Garbett, 87, a lifelong resident of Olyphant, died Friday at Mercy Hospice after an extended illness. She was the widow of Gerald Garbett.

Born in Olyphant, daughter of the late Police Chief Joseph and Martha Shifka Michalik, she was a 1942 graduate of Olyphant High School and organized its high school reunions. Louise served as the judge of elections for Olyphant for many years. She enjoyed selling Avon, playing bingo and spending time with dear friends and family. She passed away with family by her side.

Surviving are two daughters, Geraldine Repchak and husband, Steven, Endicott, N.Y.; and Paula Chipalowsky and husband, Edward, Mount Cobb; three granddaughters, Kimberly Repchak and Amy Benninger, Endicott; and Kara Chipalowsky, Collegeville; three great-grandchildren, Danielle, Zoe and David Benninger III, Endicott; a sister, Martha Driesbaugh, Clarks Summit; a brother, Stanley Michalik, Dickson City; and nieces and nephews who lovingly knew her as "Ciocia." She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Edmund and Michael Michalik; and a sister, Elizabeth Michalik.

The funeral will be Monday from the Michael P. Glinsky Funeral Home Inc., 129 Grant St., Olyphant, with Mass at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Cross Parish at St. Patrick's Church, Olyphant. Friends may call Sunday, 4 to 8 p.m. Interment, St. Michael's Cemetery, Blakely.
