William D. “W.D.” Hand, 89, of Tifton died Friday, February 18, 2011,
at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 21, 2011, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Danny Jones will officiate with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Chris Lockhart, Kevin Hand, Joey Hand, Chris Moon, Lucas Hand, Sam Hand, Jeromie Hand and Adam Davis will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Austin Hand and Will Moon. The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 20, 2011, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mr. Hand was born on September 7, 1921 in Tift County and was the son of Ploomer Seymour Hand and Susie Ann Gibbs Hand, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. He was a retired manager with Leslie Locke Builders and a farmer. He was of the Baptist faith. He was a member of the Burger King Coffee Club and loved his children and grandchildren. He served in the United Stated Army Air Corps in World War II and was a P.O.W. for 627 days in Germany.
Mr. Hand is survived by his wife, Ola Willis Hand of Tifton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Dawn Hand of Tifton and Doug and Helen Hand of Douglasville; one daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and Grady Lockhart of Villa Rica; eight grandchildren, Chris Lockhart, Shannon Moon, Kevin Hand, Joey Hand, Erin Davis, Taylor Hand, Lucas Hand and Sam Hand; and ten great-grandchildren, Victoria Moon, Will Moon, Shelby Moon, Gage Lockhart, Noelle Lockhart, Jeromie Hand, Austin Hand, Emily Hand, Riley Hand and Olivia Davis.
