Obituary

WORCESTER____Matthew K. Wojtkowski, 83, of Worcester, died Thursday Jan. 8 in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center.His wife, Josephine B. (Grynkiewicz) Wojtkowski died in 1979.

He leaves a son, Richard J. Wojtkowski of Worcester; a daughter, Sandra APascal of Houston, TX., four grandchildren and several nephews and nieces. He was born and raised in Staten Island, N.Y., son of Stephen and Joann Wojtkowski and had lived here since 1945.

Mr. Wojtkowski was a wire weaver many years for G.F. Wright Steel Co., and retired several years ago. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving in Europe at Arno, Foggia, Sicily, Southern France and the Rhineland. He was awarded a Purple Heart for wounds received in action.

Mr. Wojtkowski was a member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, the Polish American Veterans of World War II and the Disabled American Veterans.

The funeral will be held on Saturday Jan. 10 from HENRY-DIRSA FUNERAL HOME, 33 Ward St., with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward St. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. A calling hour will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday Jan. 10 in the funeral home. Members of Polish American Veterans of World War II will meet at 9 a.m. during calling hours to conduct their ritual. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Schools Athletic Fund, 50 Richland St., Worcester, 01610.
