Virgil Neal Martin, age 78, of 650 Holland Road, Danville, died Friday, February 18, 2011 at his residence.
Born November 21, 1932 in the Glenwood Community, he was the son of the late Virgil Nuel Martin and Edith Grace Wyrick Martin. Mr. Neal Martin was a veteran of the US Navy serving his country during the Korean War Conflict aboard the USS William R. Rush. He retired from Corning Glass Works with 30 years of service and enjoyed the work he did for Habitat for Humanity. He was an avid member of the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints. He was also a member of the Corning Retirees Club and the American Legion Post 1097.
Survivors include his wife Patricia Gauldin Martin, a daughter, Joan "Bunkie" Davis and her husband Robert Davis of Danville; a son, Anthony Bruce Martin and his wife Robbie Martin of Aurora, NC; one sister: Edith Martin Reynolds and her husband Harold of Danville; three grandchildren: Christina Lynn Martin of Dulles, VA, Nicholas Frank Martin of Florida, and Patrick Neal Martin and his wife Rebecca of Virginia Beach; two great-grandchildren: Dillon Martin and Jacob Martin of Florida; one pet and companion "Gloria".
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Ila Martin West and Pauline Martin Collins, and by two brothers, Grady Martin and Donald Martin. Mr. Martin enjoyed the many nieces and nephews he had.
Funeral services officiated by Bishop Ray Mullins will be held at the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints (Mormon Church), 3058 North Main Street, Danville, on Monday, February 21, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Interment with military graveside honors by the American Legion Dan River Post 1097 Honor Guard will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will be at the residence on Holland Road.
