Carol A. MacKinnon, 74, lifelong resident of Derry, NH died unexpectedly Wednesday February 16, 2011 at the Parkland Medical Center in Derry. Carol was born in W. Roxbury, MA on January 4, 1937, daughter of the late Leon and Doris (Gutermuth) MacKinnon. She was a 1954 graduate of Pinkerton Academy in Derry. She was employed for many years for Kendall Mills in Walpole, MA as executive secretary to John Kendall. She later worked at the Child Development Center in Derry and retired from the Town of Derry School System after several years as assistant media director. Carol was a member of the National Wildlife Association and loved her animals, especially Samoyed, Bichon and German Shepard dogs. Carol was known as a story teller and for her great sense of humor. She enjoyed crafts and was an avid painter, painting on wood and with water colors.
She is survived by two brothers, her twin brother Kenneth MacKinnon of Virginia Beach, VA and Robert MacKinnon and his wife Lois of Sandown, NH, her sister, Jean Marlow and her husband James of East Bend, NC, many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She also leaves her best friend, Johanna McNamee of Derry. She was predeceased by her brother, Leon MacKinnon, her sister, Janice Arbarchuk, and her sister-in-law, Yaeko MacKinnon.
There are no calling hours. Memorial services and burial will be held in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a local animal shelter of one's choice. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry in handling arrangements.
