Raymond "Soney" DeBarros, 65, of New Bedford died January 7, 2004 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness.
He was the husband of Cynthia (Barros) Rocha-DeBarros, and son of the late Nelson DeBarros, Sr. and Josepha (Tavares) Haynes.
Mr. DeBarros was born in New Bedford and had lived in New Bedford for all of his life.
He was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Mr. DeBarros was formerly employed with the City of New Bedford Waste Water Treatment Management for many years until his retirement in 2002.
He served in the U.S. Army.
He enjoyed carpentry and playing the guitar.
Survivors include his wife; 2 sons, Raymond DeBarros, Jr., of Atlanta, GA, and Brian DeBarros of New Bedford; 2 daughters, Tanya Stubbs and Donnea Rittenburg, both of Dorchester; a stepson, Michael Rocha of New Bedford; 2 stepdaughters, Michelle Rocha-Alves and Maureen Rocha-Andrews, both of New Bedford; 3 brothers, Donald DeBarros and Nelson DeBarros, Jr., both of New Bedford, and Thomas DeBarros of Acushnet; 5 sisters, Jean Barrett of Richmond, VA, and Joan Lacerda, Joyce Martin, Judith DeBarros and Melody Haynes, all of New Bedford; 10 grandchildren, Erica, Adrianne, Sophia, Dominique, Destiny, David, Terel, LaKiesha, Courtney and Brian, Jr.; 11 step-grandchildren; 3 step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
