Obituary

Blanche A. (Dubois) Constant, 89, of New Bedford died January 7, 2004 unexpectedly at home.

She was the wife of Rosaire Adrian Constant, and daughter of the late Emile and Florida (Filault) Dubois.

Mrs. Constant was born in North Adams, and had lived in New Bedford for most of her life. She grew up in the North End, attending St. Anthony Grammar School and Church. After marrying in 1938, she lived in the South End until 1980 when she moved to live in the West End.

Mrs. Constant left school at the age of 14 to work and help support her family doing domestic work in New Bedford and other cities. She had also been employed at Acushnet Process Company and at various garment and handbag manufacturing firms during her married life.

She was a communicant of St. Julie Billiart Church in North Dartmouth.

Mrs. Constant was full of life and was energetic up to the last few years of her life. She loved her family and her pets, and loved to cook for them. She was a wonderful singer who liked to entertain.

Mrs. Constant loved to swim at the South End beaches, and shared this activity with her family for many years. She had a loving, generous heart, and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Robert N. Constant of Monroe, NY; a daughter, Jane I. Constant of New Bedford; a sister, Florence Bates of Mattapoisett; 2 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Roland Dubois and Dora Blanchette.

Visiting hours Friday, January 9th from 1-5 PM.

Interment Sacred Heart Cemetery.
