CLIFFORD S. WAREING, 91 NEW BEDFORD -- Clifford Sharples Wareing, 91, of South Dartmouth died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004, at St. Luke's Hospital after a period of declining health.
Born in South Dartmouth, the son of the late Eli and Elizabeth (Sharples) Wareing, he was a graduate of Dartmouth High School and New Bedford Institute of Textiles and Technology.
During World War II, he served in the Air Force and was subsequently active with the Coastal Auxiliary. Mr. Wareing was a textile designer employed by the former Hoosiac Textile mill in New Bedford and later by the Acushnet Process Co. as a technician engineer, retiring in 1982.
A lifelong Dartmouth resident, he was a member of the Congregational Church of South Dartmouth. He was a past treasurer of the South Dartmouth Cemetery Association and a member of the American Legion Post and Veterans of Foreign Wars, both of Dartmouth.
Survivors include two daughters, Susan Wareing of South Dartmouth and Jean Borges of Westport; and five grandchildren, Holly Borges, Chapin Borges, Bethany Merchant, Carolyn Merchant and Clifford Merchant.
He was the brother of the late John Frederick Wareing and William Theodore Wareing.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday Jan. 9, 2004 in the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St., followed by burial in South Dartmouth Cemetery. Visiting hours are Thursday 4-7 p.m.
