Whitman – Ann A. (Deehan) McGunnigle 90, a life long resident of Whitman, died Sunday February 13 after a period of failing health. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert F. McGunnigle, Sr.
Born and raised in Whitman she was the daughter of the late John T. and Margaret T. (Nash) Deehan and a graduate of Whitman High School.
Ann had worked for over 15 years as a Teacher’s Aide at the former Regal Park School of Whitman, and became one of the favorites among the school children. She was a longtime communicant of the Holy Ghost Church and a former member of the Ladies Sodality.
She loved traveling, knitting and was an avid reader.
Ann was a devoted wife and mother and her greatest joy came from attending the countless events of her children and grandchildren. She had a tremendous “zest “for life and will be remembered for her delightful sense of humor.
She is survived by her loving children John McGunnigle and his wife Linda of West Bridgewater, Sheilah Doherty and her husband Gerald of Boston, and Kathi McGunnigle and her husband Timothy Ouimette of New York, her brother William Deehan and his wife Shirley of Plymouth, her sisters Margaret Shields of Abington, Frances Mahoney and her husband Robert of Whitman, Kathleen Willett and her husband Robert of East Bridgewater, and Deanna Bermingham and her husband Douglas of Whitman. She is also survived by four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and many nieces and nephew. She was the mother of the late Robert F. McGunnigle, Jr. sister of the late Marie Phinney, and sister in law of the late John Shields.
Her services will be held Saturday February 19 at 8:15AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman, followed by a funeral mass at 9:00 AM in the Holy Ghost Church, Whitman. Burial will follow in the St. James Cemetery, Whitman. Visiting hours will be held Friday February 18 from 4-8 PM. Donations in her name may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
