James Chekares, 75, of Westport, MA passed away at home on February 14, 2011 surrounded by love. He was the son of the late Gus and Pauline (Vrachos) and husband for 41 years of Audrey (Pacheco).
He is survived by his son Mark of Fall River and his wife, Jennie and their three children: Sophie, Isabelle and Andrew James. He was the cousin of Chris Vrachos and his wife Roberta, and Carol Morse and her husband John. Also, two sisters-in-law: Grace Smith and Janet Rego.
Jim graduated from Boston University and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was superintendent of building construction, starting his career with Franchi Construction. He was a member of The Tyrain-Ashler-Acacia Lodge of Gloucester then the Massasoit and Narragansett Lodge A.F. & A.M. of Fall River. He was a Mason for 54 years. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and cheerful personality. Jim was a role model and mentor to many people and a friend to all.
