WASHINGTON…Edgar Gabby Marsh, 85, of Washington, passed away at 12:02 a.m., Monday, February 14, 2011 at Washington Christian Village.
Gabby was born on May 16, 1925 in Monmouth, Illinois to Eugene and Alys Gabby Marsh. He married Marie Blumenshine in Washington on July 19, 1949. Marie survives.
Also surviving is one daughter, Pam (Rick) Everetts of Washington; two granddaughters, Janelle (Todd) Perry of Goodfield and Jill (Chad) Nelson of East Peoria and six great grandchildren, Anna, Andrew and Adam Perry and Ella, Grace and Bryce Nelson. He was preceded in death by one brother, Reverend Hugh Marsh.
Gabby was retired from Caterpillar where he had worked for more than 35 years in tool design at facilities in East Peoria and Mossville.
He had served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of both World War II and the Korean War.
Gabby had been an active member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Washington where he had been over the years a head usher, sang in the choir and also had served as a counter and treasurer. He also had been a member of the Good Samaritan Sunday School Class at church and was the chairman of the building committee for the new addition that was completed several years ago.
He also had kept busy with other activities having served on the Washington City Council and had been awarded the “Good Neighbor Award”. In his spare time Gabby loved working in his yard, doing some gardening and also some woodworking.
Gabby will always be remembered as a loving and caring husband and father, being a great provider. He especially cherished the time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren and will always be remembered by his smile.
Funeral services for Gabby will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at Evangelical United Methodist Church with Pastor John Hauck officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday. Mason-White Funeral Home is assisting the family in arrangements.
Private graveside services will be held on Thursday at Glendale Cemetery in Washington with military rites provided by the U.S. Navy and Tazewell Military Rites Team.
Memorials may be made to his church or the Children’s Hospital of Central Illinois.
